CORRECTION AND CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story included an incorrect number of coronavirus cases for Magnolia House in Gadsden County. In a Florida Department of Health list of long-term care facilities in which patients or staff have tested positive, Magnolia House is identified as the only facility with a case or cases in Gadsden County. A separate notes that Gadsden has had 16 residents test positive who either live or work in long-term care facilities. Magnolia House officials say that only one staffer has tested positive for coronavirus and that staffer was asymptomatic and had not been to work since learning of the contact with the positive case, which occurred outside the facility.
In its Saturday morning report, the Florida Department of Health removed five confirmed local cases of the coronavirus from Leon County's overall total.
But though the overall number of local cases has changed, it appears the department had removed a total of seven recorded positives and added two new cases to the count.
2020欧洲杯正规平台Friday's total number of local positives was 174. By Saturday morning, that number dropped to 169 and held fast in the evening update. DOH releases a twice-daily coronavirus report, published at about 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The two new cases DOH added Saturday belong to two women, a 33-year-old and a 50-year-old.
2020欧洲杯正规平台DOH Spokeswoman Pam Saulsby said in an email the department was looking into why the cases were removed, and where they had gone.
2020欧洲杯正规平台By Saturday afternoon, Saulsby returned from DOH's state office with an answer that only said DOH's daily reports "are provisional and subject to change."
"The Department utilizes the testing data received from all 67 counties in the State of Florida," Sauslby wrote to the Tallahassee Democrat.
"It is important to note that data in these reports are provisional and subject to change based on additional information gathered in the epidemiological investigation. As more data is collected and analyzed, the reports will adjust accordingly."
Later Saturday, under threat of lawsuit from some newspapers around the state, that have seen residents or staff test positive for the virus.
2020欧洲杯正规平台In Leon County, only one long-term care facility has had residents or staff test positive for COVID-19.
Tallahassee Developmental Center, a long-term care residence for adults with developmental disabilities, has reported 77 positive cases of coronavirus, though DOH records only 64 long-term care cases in the capital county.
2020欧洲杯正规平台In other long-term care residences throughout the Big Bend, Magnolia House is identified as the only facility that had a case in Gadsden County.
2020欧洲杯正规平台A separate DOH breakdown of long-term facility cases notes that there are 16 cases associated with Gadsden residents or workers at long-term care facilities.
The Democrat incorrectly reported the number of cases at Magnolia House Saturday when it linked the two reports.
2020欧洲杯正规平台"We have ZERO cases of the virus," Amanda Watson, Executive Director of Magnolia House, said in an email to the Democrat Saturday night.
2020欧洲杯正规平台On Sunday morning, Watson posted a note on Facebook acknowledging that "one staff member/employee tested positive after coming in contact with a positive case after being asymptomatic (without symptoms) but had been in contact with a reported positive case."
She said the employee who tested positive has not been to work since learning of the contact with the positive case. Watson said the employee followed all quarantining directives in a timely manner, is feeling fine and will return to work only after returning two negative test results.
2020欧洲杯正规平台CEO Chris Landers further elaborated: "We have no positive cases at the community. We have one employee that is asymptomatic. She is eligible to return tomorrow. Pending a negative test. She did not contract at the (facility). She has not been to the community. There has been no interface between her and our residents and staff."
Elsewhere, Cross Landings Health And Rehabilitation Center is identified as the only facility with a case or cases in Jefferson County. A separate DOH breakdown notes that Jefferson County has 19 cases tied to long-term care facilities that involve residents or those who work in them.
At Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, CEO Mark O'Bryant in a video posted to YouTube answered several questions the hospital on Miccosukee Road and Magnolia Drive has received recently about the coronavirus and local preparations.
O'Bryant acknowledged that the University of Pennsylvania coronavirus model, which had predicted the local hospital system could be overwhelmed by cases2020欧洲杯正规平台, is showing a more encouraging picture for the region now.
2020欧洲杯正规平台"So we don't necessarily believe or see the numbers coming out that we saw earlier from the CHIME model, but we do recognize we are one major event away from having a catastrophic event, similar to other cities," O'Bryant said.
2020欧洲杯正规平台He said the risk of this "catastrophic" event is why "we need to stay on track with social distancing an all the other CDC guidelines that are out there."
The hospital's projections show a local "peak" in mid-May or June. The community's efforts to "manage the peak period" means that fewer patients at a time would need emergency hospitalization because of the virus, he said.
"The issue of (personal protective equipment) is a complicated one," O'Bryant continued. One issue is the supply line. The hospital sources its PPE from other countries, and these supply lines are "not as available" as they were before the pandemic, O'Bryant said.
Secondly, the hospital must treat every potential patient with symptoms of COVID-19 as if they are positive for the virus, "which burns up a lot of PPE," he said.
"That's why people talk about the importance of testing and the timeliness of testing," O'Bryant said. He said the hospital is trying to "preserve" the PPE it has.
Despite the cases that were removed from Saturday morning's report, DOH reported more COVID-19 tests administered in its Saturday report, up from 2,247 to 2,335. The department records 2,164 local negative tests and two inconclusive tests.
2020欧洲杯正规平台The inconclusive tests will be re-administered. Separately, five tests are pending, according to reports.
